A truce is established

Some more Homer today. This is an excerpt from Book III which I translated for no known reason. I had plans to translate several other excerpts of Iliad and Odyssey, like Hector and Andromacha, or Achilles killing Hector, but then the summer ended, school started, and when March/May arrived and I had time, I decided to move on to Aeolic and Sappho, so I never translated those, unfortunately. «This is, again, translated in summer 2009, and edited in summer 2012, possibly with | to mark hands-ups with respect to making the Latin hexameters scan. A file created 2/8/09 10:48 and edited 3/2/10 14:26 has the original version given here, the other one is the remake from 2012 I suppose». OK, more precision:
  1. On 12/8/09 it seems there was a shift: from translating prose authors (or more specifically Herodotus) I moved to the prose translations of these guys or the passage below;
  2. I kept going with Greek stuff, so either these prose translations or the poetic translations of the other post, till 22/8, then paused 23-25 and probably 26, and on 27/8/09 is when I last edited the file containing the Prosa version below;
  3. By 8/9/09, I was ready to bring the «æstivum Græcum» (summertime Greek) to a professor in my high school, so at least the Verti version below was complete; in fact, my diary mentions no Greek on 7/9, and 3-6/9 was apparently replete with schoolwork and my wannabe Latin treatise on biochemistry (don't comment, I know I'm crazy), so probably the translation below was done by 2/9; this translation, by which I mean the Verti version, is found in a file last edited 3/2/10; the 5/2 files of Sing to me of the wrath of Achilles do not feature this translation;
  4. A "CoTAP" file edited 16/8/12 contains the history of this translation: "etiam alia verti" (presumably also harboring the Verti version), "quæ inde muto" (which actually features no changes whatsoever), and then a series of changes; an intermediate version between the Verti one and the final one of this file is found in Homeri versiones.doc, created 23/7/12 16:59 and edited 24/7/12 13:23;
  5. With some more changes later on 24/7, some changes while updating the CoTAP file on 16/8, and the change «Nḗ Vĕnĕre͜ ā́b mī dṓnă ămā́bĭlĭa͜ á͞ure͞a prṓfer» -> «Dṓnă nĕ mī́ Vĕnĕrī́s cōntḗmnās tu͜ á͞ureæ͜ ămā́tă» (16 or 17/8/12) -> «Dṓna͜ ămā́bĭlj’ ͞a͞ur͞é͞æ Vĕnĕrī́s nĕ mĭhī́ cōntḗmnās» (within 3/9/12) -> back to previous version within 21/9/12 leads to the Demum version below; actually both the CoTAP and the files making this last change also scan fortiorem as fōrtĭŏrēm, which is wrong because the -io- has a long o, so the previous scansion as fōrti͞orēm is unavoidable.
