Il nostro amor

Dopo la "vita caduta nell'oscurità" dello scorso post, direi che un po' di tristezza ci sta, e oggi con 我们的爱 | Wǒmen de ài, appunto "il nostro amore", abbiamo una storia finita male, con lei che "da quel giorno mi son dimenticata di respirare". La traduzione, come avrete intuito solo in Italiano, risale al 27/3/19. Vediamo!

Who can escape this world's sadness?

The title, which is a line in the song, ties in well with the sadness in the latest songs. The song is 新鸳鸯蝴蝶梦 | Xīn yuānyāng húdié mèng, "New dream of lovebirds", and I translated it to English on 1/8/19, starting at 21:41 with a little bit, picking it up again at 23:28 and finishing it, carrying over into the night, the last thing being at 0:35, which at that point was 2/8/19. Let's see it!

A life has fallen into the darkness

Changing Chinese dialect, we hop into Cantonese and find ourselves confronted with 上帝也哭泣 | Soeng6-dai3 jaa5 huk1-jap1, a song whose Mandarin version I already posted over 4 months ago now.
  • «I met this while searching Youtube for the Mandarin version, and it was my first clash with Cantonese. That was no later than Dec 9 2011. I tried my hand at an English version soon afterwards, got it drastically corrected, and ended up with what you see below», said the blog.
  • So, there is a 9/11/11 16:29 email with the first literal translation of the song, which is then drastically corrected by a 12/11/11 16:56 email from my corrector of the time.
  • The next email is from 9/12/11 22:10, and contains the first appearance of a musical translation.
  • Unfortunately, the diary simply mentions Chinese in every entry from 13/11 to that day, save for saying «Cantonesem cantionem melius paro» (I better prepare the Cantonese song) on 13/11. I don't know whether to assume that 13/11 was the day I made the musical translation, or that when I readied the billion different romanizations of it.
  • Though the 2/12 diary entry's «IPA transcribens quomodo Wáng Jié carmen Cantonense canens pronuntiet» (transcribing in IPA how Wáng Jié pronounces the Cantonese song) seems to somewhat suggest that 2/12 was transliteration day, so… maybe I just corrected the literal translation on 13/11, or maybe I translated it. I really cannot tell.
  • As it turns out, I made a translation during English class on 26/11. That was the original translation you find on the left (aka the email's version), aside from «Every heart and the city's heart are broke» and «’Midst all their shouts, runnin' fast in th' years, / In annoyance and shock and fear».
  • On 19/12 my corrector visits me and apparently we discuss this, because in the corrections file from 31/12/11 10:21, supposedly metabolizing the 19/12 corrections, we have the change «Hesitations why complain?» -> «Why don’t you boldly complain?».
  • Then we have more mails. One on 9/1/12 22:16 from me, attaching the corrections file, and one from 30/1/12 8:30, which suggests exactly zero corrections to this part of the corrections file.
  • So now we go into the "main-line" files, and end up on 28/7/12, I suppose. 28/7/12 11:01, and we're back at the original, except «Once cut» becomes «Once cut off».
  • 5/8/12 19:26 file only reimplements that single change of the corrections file.
  • The other changes only happen between the 8/5/13 22:08 file and the 9/7/13 12:22 one.

My future is no dream

And today we have yet another Mandarin song, 我的未来不是梦 | Wǒ de wèilái bù shì mèng, "My future is not a dream", which I met in the same timespan as "the last one" (aka Dahai), which was supposed to be posted just before this one except I then inserted three others in between.
  1. I translated to English again within the same timespan; or did I?
    • Well, for both songs the first record is the 24/10/11 email sent to my corrector; however, the diary is unclear on both, but more so on Dahai; on this one, we have the 15/10 entry explicitly mentioning it: «Inde carmen sinense novum incipio Wǒ de wèilái bú shì mèng. Quod cras terminabo, cum tempus liberum mi multum sit» (then I start a new Chinese song, Wŏ de wèilái bú shì mèng, which I will finish tomorrow, since I have a lot of free time); this is unclear on whether I was starting the English translation or the decipherment; Dahai is in pretty much the same situation, since the entries on 28/9 and 30/9 mention "a new Chinese song" without the title, but we know that the one I did before Dahai was both translated and deciphered within 19/9, so this could only have been Dahai; again, it's unclear whether I was starting the translation or the analysis/decipherment; so "same timespan" will depend on what each of these "I begin / I continue" means, and how tight you want to define the timestamp; the fact the diary never mentions Chinese from 3/10 to 14/10, excluding mentioning the Hanzi table I was making on 12/10 and the doubtful «aut officia aut Sinensem aut sbobinationem» (either homework or Chinese or that recording transcription) of 2/10, suggests there was a big gap between this song and Dahai;
    • At any rate, the first recorded version is the one in the email, which is exactly what ended up on the blog;
    • The files are a bit of a mess, in the sense that we have two parallel lines, one of translations from Chinese and from Japanese, which eventually got split into two, and one with only translations from Chinese (or to Chinese); the former line has «all day busy searching», all the way to the blog, whereas the second one, which first sees the song in the 27/11/11 15:53, has «busy all day searching», all the way to its end in Summer 2012;
    • On 10/9/18, as I ready the draft for this post, «I never have forgot myself, / The promise I have made» turns to its current form at 0:47, and both «Quam hæram amori» and «How I stick to love» do the same at 0:52;
    • We then have the recording-session changes listed below, leading to the version in my video;
    • The last change to the English is when, at some point on 27-28/11/21, I decide to make the second series win all these years lkater, and reimplement that «busy all day searching»;
  2. This time though, I also have a Latin translation, which is pretty unique for songs, and that translation I can only date to before my schooltrip to Monaco, where it came back to my mind, and that trip was in Feb 2012; let's see what the files say;
    • The first record this time is in a 31/10/11 12:45 file, which contains the original version below; it is actually entirely unclear whether this was done before or after the English, since the emails always drop non-English translations, but I'd assume I started with the English and went with Latin as a column-filler (which is what it was here before the more recent translations popped up and I decided to side up the two Latins); indeed, the mega-intro states «Wǒ de wèilái bù shì mèng fu tradotta in Latino poco dopo che in Inglese» ([this song] was translated to Latin shortly after [being translated] to English);
    • The only change that happens before August is the change «haud esse quod fiet» -> «haud est quod mi fiet», which appears in a file from the only-Chinese series on 27/11/11 15:53;
    • The 28/7/12 11:01 file would be the next record, if it weren't for the fact that, for whatever reason, it completely forgets about the Latin version, and leaves an empty column for a new translation; is it possible that I actually remade the translation from scratch, having forgotten about its existence? Or did I possibly change it during the trip to Munich, when I thought back to it and (IIRC) sang it in the metro?
    • The printout of that file from 25/7 contains a translation dated to 25/7 by the mega-intro; since there are no changes made in here that get reverted in the Middle version, I will assume the older version was just lost and remade; aside from «alii» being «alji», «spej» being «spe͞i», and «serje» being «serie», the only differences from printout to Middle below are «Esn’, ut me, toto die in quæstïone» having «totum diem» and «Trivïisqu’ abjebam et redïebam» being «Triviisqu'iebam ac rediebam»;
    • In any case, the 5/8/12 19:26 file not only makes the Chinese-only series win (which contrasts with what happened with the English), but makes a huge amount of changes, giving us the middle version… almost;
    • The middle version actually appears in the next file, from 18/8/12 at 15:27, where the extra change «Oblitus numquam sum mei» -> «Nam numquam me oblitus sum» appears; note how the original of that line was «Oblitus numquam sum de me», much more similar to the 5/8 version;
    • That is also the original blog version, save for the fact that, as I ready this post's draft on 10/9/18, I think that «Nam numquam me oblitus sum», with the object before the verb, obscures the coordination with the other objections, so I rework that line; pity that I have to imply the "sum"; it's 18:51 btw;
    • Then, around 0:50 on 20/6/21, I make tweaks, getting «Esn’, ut me, toto die in quæstïone» to «Esn' ut me, qui perenni in quæstu sum» at 0:46 (and then to its current form at 1:18/19 on 21/6/21), «Oblitus enim numquam me, / Promissiones mëas» at 0:48, and both «Quam hæram amori» and «How I stick to love» at 0:52, in this order;
    • The final bout of changes is the recording-session changes listed below, which finally get us to the current blog version;
  3. Then, under the influence of Scorpiō Mārtiānus, on 27/8/21 in the dead of night I start the first two lines, then on 29/8/21 at 0:10-0:55 I finish a first version, which I tweak on 30/8 around 11:45 and 20:07, as well as on 31/8 around 16, and on 2/9 at 17:15 and shortly before 19:15;
  4. So, now we have Chinese and transliteration, then we want to side the Latins… what do we side with the English? Welp, turns out one of my friends from Chinese class is actually Albanian, so Albanian it is; 30/8/21 17:41-18:04 and the following night 1:59-2:28 we have everything up to l. 2 of section 3 as well as the title, then I complete it at 15:40-15:56; there are then a couple later changes from 28/11/21: «Nuk do t' lija» -> «S'do t'e lija» at 14:29 and «që dëshiroj» -> «q'e dëshiroj», hesitantly at 14:32.
Just before and during the recording process, on 18/9/21, I make the following tweaks:
  1. wh', even if discouraged -> wh', even in indifference, 14:17;
  2. qui ne si dissuaderer quidem -> qui in aliorum indifferentia, 14:18;
  3. abdicarem, quam desidero, vita -> Vitam quam desidero non relinquam, 14:19;
  4. m' kom bën' mu un' -> … un' mu, 14:26;
  5. happiness -> tenderness, 14:34; this had actually been handwritten on the printout of the 28/7/12 11:01 file, but got lost on the way to the blog;
  6. Ejus inimaginabilis gaudî -> Inimaginabilis teneritatis, 14:40.
No idea where I got that wēnróu was happiness when it's tenderness (last two tweaks), or why I thought "shòu lěngmò" meant "be discouraged" (first two tweaks). Let's see!

Ma come hai fatto?

L'altra volta avevamo "chèllë chë qua 'n pittë chiósë sta" nonché "chi nën zë pò scurdà", e oggi abbiamo un grande amore, come mai la cantante ne ha vissuti prima, con Come hai fatto, di Mina. Questa l'ho tradotta in Min Nan tra le 12:30 e le 13:50 del 3/10/19. In pratica, è andata come segue. L'ho sentita alla giornata d'inizio anno di CL, 27/9/19, e ho pensato che era bellissima e da tradurre, e automaticamente ho pensato al Cinese. A questo punto, in Cinese le domande si fanno in tre modi: o 1) aggiungi 吗 ma alla fine, o 2) metti la particella interrogativa 是否 shìfǒu nella frase, oppure 3) metti verbo + 不 bù + verbo. Pensando a "se quella lì sono io", il primo modo mi piaceva poco perché non tiene "io" alla fine, il secondo mi costringeva ad aggiungere una nota o a spezzare shìfǒu tra le due semifrasi "se quella lì" e "sono io", separate da una pausa nella musica, e il terzo idem, tranne che la pausa cadeva tra bù e la ripetizione del verbo. Ma! Ma in Min Nan shìfǒu diventa 敢 kám, e il problema scompare. E così già in sede di giornata d'inizio avevo pensato al Min Nan, e niente, il 3/10 ho portato a termine il progetto. [Con un errorino, a quanto pare, per cui un 不知 era scivolato nella seconda riga dell'ultima "strofa" (Italiano "Non so nemmeno"), corretto presumibilmente nel fare la bozza del post, e comunque tra le 13:50 e le 20:47 del 3/10/19.] Non pago di ciò, per divertimento, mi sono messo a cantarla in Mandarino, perché il passaggio al Mandarino qui è quasi solo pronunciare i caratteri diversamente e cambiare le parole dialettali negli equivalenti mandarini, quindi automatico, tranne per tre punti, "se quella lì sono io", per cui cfr. sopra, "E non ha senso", dove una parola dialettale guadagna una sillaba in mandarino, mangiandosi l'esclamativo di fine frase "ah", e "Ti voglio bene", dove compare un'espressione idiomatica Min Nan. E così, nel giro del tempo che serve a cantarla una volta, per le 19:33 dello stesso giorno ce l'avevo in Mandarino. Dopodiché, per riempire la colonna di fianco all'Italiano, mentre mi rigiravo nel letto tra le 2:42 e le 2:57 dello stesso 4/10, ecco che la canto in Inglese, quasi traduzione musicale in simultanea. E niente, vediamo 'ste traduzioni!

Nottata di luna

Dunque, l'altra volta abbiamo visto una canzone in un dialetto Abruzzese del gruppo meridionale (precisamente quello di Atri, in provincia di Teramo), che aveva a che fare col mare. Quindi oggi stiamo sul mare (non troppo direttamente) e risaliamo verso le Marche, arrivando a San Benedetto del Tronto, il cui dialetto è del medesimo gruppo, e troviamo Nuttatë dë lónë.
Il testo è preso da questo post su Facebook, con influenze fonetiche dal video linkato prima, in particolare per le schwa. A proposito di questo, "st" si pronuncia "sht", come in Napoletano, almeno stando al video. La seconda strofa nel video non c'è, quindi l'ho un po' indovinata. Alcune cose di traduzione (in particolare che ppió significhi anche se) vengono da qui. Ancora ho il dubbio se le lancette siano dell'orologio o siano un tipo di barca: la parola suggerisce la prima, il contesto punta, mi pare, decisamente verso la seconda. Se solo mi rispondessero qui…. Alla fine mi hanno risposto sul post di Facebook: le lancette sono delle piccole lance a vela. Quindi la noticina con l'alternativa «日头太阳落山,钟上指针反倒转回来 | Jık-thâo lȯh-suann(sang?), tseng tsiōnn tsí(?)-tsam póinn-tò-tńg», poi diventata «日头西山,时针颠倒转», si può cassare. A proposito di pronuncia e di Quora, c'è anche questa domanda, che porta a nghë invece di nghé o nghè.
E poi naturalmente abbiamo la domanda sulla traduzione Teochew qui. Eh già, perché questa l'ho tradotta in Teochew. La pensata è stata: questa è in Sanbenedettino, che linguisticamente è una variante assai meno conosciuta del Napoletano, quindi per fare un analogo devo prendere un dialetto meno conosciuto in una famiglia con un rappresentante ben noto, e dunque ne è uscita l'associazione Napoletano->Hokkien Sanbenedettino->Teochew. Non so perché la risposta abbia sostenuto che il Pengim dava l'accento Swatow quando un sacco di volte m'è capitato di cambiare da Chaozhou a Swatow nel correggere il Pengim… [per essere espliciti, la traduzione originale sotto riporta il Pengim aggiustato dell'autorisposta]
Comunque abbiamo la strofa 1 il 16/6 tra le 14 e le 15, il rit. 1 riga 1 il 16/6/19 alle 18:40 circa, il resto della prima metà il giorno dopo tra le 8:30 e le 9, qualche Teochew-ficazione rimettendo tutto insieme e facendo il Pengim il pomeriggio del 17, il resto tranne la riga delle lancette il 17 tra le 16:30 e le 23:30, Teochew-ficazioni il giorno dopo alle 12:30 rimettendo tutto insieme, e la riga delle lancette, in duplice versione, il 18/6 alle 12:45 circa, e infine una piccola modifica il 20/6 (che poi è ieri) alle 16:04 nel fare la domanda su Quora Inglese.
Sotto do sia il Pengim che una traslitterazione stile Tai-lo. Spero corrispondano perfettamente.
Con un po' di interazioni con due "risponditori" su Quora, entro le 16:32 del 26/6/19 abbiamo una versione migliorata e tornata all'accento Chaozhou. 14/8/19 0:09, decido di cassare l'"ah" finale nella riga delle lancette.
Elenco ora le differenze tra la traduzione data qui come "originale" e quella che si trova nella nota Facebook colla storia delle traduzioni:
  1. 别 non è lo spelling corretto di "pak" = "riconoscere" nella riga 3, errore corretto nel punto 14 dell'autorisposta su Quora;
  2. L'aggiunta di 来(?) alla riga 5 del rit., che nella nota ha solo la conversione da 正在 a 在 (letto do);
  3. 倒转来 -> 反倒转 nella prima riga della terza strofa, nel punto 57 dell'autorisposta;
  4. 的->个 nella terza riga di quella strofa, avvenuta postando su Quora la traduzione;
  5. 揣->觅 nell'ultima riga della strofa, avvenuta nel punto 66 dell'autorisposta;
  6. 佮->个 nella prima riga del ritornello modificato finale, punto 7;
  7. 惜命命->过珍惜 nella seconda riga del primo ritornello, punto 70.

Più lontano delle stelle

La volta scorsa avevamo una canzone intitolata "Oceano" (o letteralmente "grande mare"), e oggi abbiamo una canzone che ha a che fare con il mare. Si tratta di Luntanë cchiù luntanë, canzone in un dialetto abruzzese del gruppo meridionale – precisamente Atriano, dato che il testo è dell'atriano Luigi Illuminati – che ho tradotto in Cinese la sera del 12/6/19, cambiando poi un paio di 要 in 想 e 得 nella seconda strofa (originale «要去哪儿为了不死亡 / 啊漂亮鱼船,你就要») mentre scrivevo la bozza di questo post alle 22:58 del 21/6/19, e aggiungendo il 你 della prima riga di quella strofa la stessa sera a bozza finita alle 23:02. Il testo è preso da qui, con qualche adattamento ortografico, principalmente per indicare le schwa con ë invece che confonderle con autentiche e. Anche la traduzione viene da lì. [La nota che contiene la storia di questa traduzione riporta un cambiamento del 12/6/19 alle 23:45 come «唱出去», che presumo si riferisca a «它还让我唱出来». Il cambiamento non migliora la situazione rime, e tra qù e lái non so se ce ne sia uno decisamente più adatto al contesto, quindi boh, non so perché ho scritto quella modifica.] Poi, a bozza finita, penso di aggiungerci il Francese, e nel giro di 25 minuti scarsi avevo una versione. Ovviamente non faccio il post in Francese per questo, non foss'altro che l'ho già scritto in Italiano :). Abbiamo poi, il 17/12/21 all'1:06-1:10, una serie di modifiche: 我感到心在震颤->感到我心在震颤, 那=>这 alle righe 3-4, 它还让我唱出来->它还让我来歌唱 per la rima, 你知道我的心灵/想去哪儿为了不死亡/啊漂亮鱼船,你就得/跟这些叹息来去到远方 prima in 你知道我的心灵/为了不死亡想去哪/啊漂亮鱼船,你就得/跟这些叹息来去远方啊 poi in 你知道我的心灵/为了不死亡想去哪/啊漂亮的鱼船,你就/跟这些叹息该去远方啊. Ocean

And today we have another Chinese song, 大海 | Dàhǎi, literally "Big sea", probably "Ocean", I guess :). «I met it probably in Sep 2011, definitely no later than Oct 26, and translated it to English soon afterwards and within that same Oct 26 (assuming I'm correct in suspecting that was when I sent my work to my Chinese friend who corrected it), and to French within the summer. As far as I can tell, the only change is «Put this inside my heart» -> «Put this down in my heart», a change that doesn't appear in old files last edited up to Dec 7 2011, but only in files created Sep 3 2012 and edited Dec 25 2017, and one PDF created and last edited Jul 9 2013. My guess would be that I made the change in the summer of 2012 as I took the song into my hands again to translate it into French, and then it first appeared in a PDF in 2013 when I was preparing the songs for my blind friend. I don't like the change, so I'm undoing it here on the blog», said the intro. Boy was it wrong.
  • First of all, this other post discusses how the diary somewhat suggests that this translation was made all the way back in September 28-30.
  • Secondly, the things were sent in on 24/10/11 at 22:55, and this was in its Original version below.
  • Then, a file last edited on 31/10/11 at 12:45 brings us to the Middle 1 version below.
  • This is what remains there up till the file from 15:31 on the same day, and then the next file, from 25/11/11 16:50, shows the Middle 2 version, which is a partial reversal of changes and some new stuff.
  • This persists up to the 7/12/11 11:49 file, and the next one, from 28/7/12 11:01, finally has the Pseudofinal version below, save for the 23/12/21 tweak mentioned below. When I get around to recording this, I will choose the best of each version of each line.
  • I also have ll. 3-4 tweaked on 23/12/21 at 0:07, changing from the Pseudofinal version's former «From a face all unclear, / Bit by bit you get clear to the present form.
  • The printout of the 28/7 file has the following changes annotated on it, apparently all lost on the way to the blog:
    1. «You now slowly get clear»;
    2. «I walk blankly on the beach»;
    3. «I now shout “I love you”, / But the wind blows it away», marked "NO!", so undone by the annotation itself;
    4. «All the tears that I’ve cried».
    I will decide later on what to do about any of these. In fact, I may remake the whole thing from scratch and do away with this mess.
As for the French, there's still blank lines for it in the 5/8/12 19:26 file, and it appears as below in the 18/8/12 15:27 file. In fact, the manuscript translation on the printout of the 28/7 file gives the printout version below, which the mega-intro dates to 25/7. Let's see!

Heart addiction

Speaking of "love […] just to break up, for memories", today we have a Cantonese song I was about to forget about completely and leave out of the blog, despite having many translations, and this is the last draft I wrote. We are talking about 心瘾 | Sam1 jan5, "Heart addiction", which I met sometime in Jan 2012. I translated it:
  1. To English, a translation first recorded in the attachment of the email by which I sent the song in for corrections on Mar 9 2012 at 17:55, with the line «An obedient partner will be my» left blank since we both couldn't understand the original, save for me having an illumination and ending up with the alternate version «I'll get addicted to a love that / Obeys»; the mega-intro says that I found the song on 5/2, had my understanding corrected on 6/3, and solved this problem «tra il 6/3 – data della sua ultima venuta a casa mia – e l’8/3, data in cui era presente la traduzione Inglese di questa canzone» (between 6/3 – date in which he [my corrector at the time] last came to my home – and 8/3, date on which the English translation of this song was present»; that's the version that shows up in the 28/7/12 11:01 file and the 5/8/12 19:26 file; the printout of the 28/7/12 file has an annotation giving the version «Obedient lover will be my / Heart-need» which the mega-intro explicitly dates to 26/7; the version below, clearly a tweak of that annotation, first appears in the 18/8/12 15:27 file, save for having "lover" in place of "partner", which is a change «Decided 29/4/21 17:14»;
  2. To Italian on my schooltrip to Munich, and specifically on either 20/3 or 21/3/12, the diary isn't split between the two but it really looks like there is a day transition between the date 20/3 and the translation, and I also remember this translation being done on the last night there, which was clearly that between 21/3 and 22/3; the mega-intro places this on 20/3, weirdly enough; I should look at the original of the diary to see what gives; maybe I misremember and this was actually done on 20/3? In effect, come to think of it, I never wrote the account of 22/3 by hand, so since this is on the diary, it's probably from the night between 20 and 21;
  3. To Japanese, where the line 自分落とした appears between the 28/7/12 11:01 file and the 5/8/12 19:26 file, the 28/7 file planning a French version; this is weird, because the full translation is manuscripted on the printout of the 28/7 file, and the mega-intro dates it to 26/7; at any rate, the manuscript is faithfully transcribed as the printout version below; the 18/8/12 15:27 file gives us the final version save for "First strike zutto sagashita", where the "wo" appears between 18/8/12 21:16 and 3/9/12 13:26.
Then again, I'll probably ponder what the heck this song means and very heavily rework all of its translations before recording it. Welp, let's see!
