Incomplete translations
: Pinolo, Greek
I was essentially asked to translate one or both of the songs written by a friend of mine, and, on a certain day, I started a Greek translations for a rhyme thing (it's mostly rhymes with stress on the penult, so Chinese wouldn't be a good fit), and I do just one line:
Γιατί ακριβώς έτσι κουκουνάρι / σαν το κουκουνάρι
First version within 2:42:27, second version 2:49. The "certain day" turns out to be 1/5/21. I had to go through my screenshots to figure this out, because stupid me copied the timestamp but not the date. The screenshots show the self-chat messages as "Today" (yeah, Fb still had copypasted chat messages include their dates back then) on 1/5/21. Even if I hadn't been this lucky, I most definitely wouldn't have scrolled back like 7 months through my self-chat, leaving this date uncertain between 29/4 and 1/5 instead.
I will come back to this, see if I can get the rhymes to work, and finish it if so, or ditch it and go to some other language, perhaps Spanish, perhaps not, who knows, if the rhymes are too problematic.
: Lâm-lîn--ê kuānn, English remake
On 11/8/21 at 0:20, I decide I'm going to remake the English version of
this song, and get three lines done:
Life brought me to this
Mountain of a place
Where I've found gods too lonely feel
After reading
this answer about the song, I remake the three lines with rhymes, 12/5/23 12:19:
Hither life has brought me,
I'm sky-high socially,
I've found gods too can lonely be.
17/5/23 2:57 I think of «I've found gods can also lonely be». Then on 10/12/23 15:39, looking for translations to complete, I do two more lines, but stop there because first I want to review the song and fully understand it. For now, this is what I have.
Hither life has brought me,
I'm sky-high socially,
I've found gods too can lonely be.
Looking back at past me,
Wind and storms I see,
: Beginning of Inferno, English remake
I mean, the translation at
this post for that part of the Divine Comedy (and the one for the writing on the door of Hell too actually) is pretty terrible, so it deserves a remake. 7/10/21 22:52 I do l. 1:
Right halfway through the path that is our life,
And that's where we're at for now. 19/4/22 17:55, inspired by the Aquilan translation by Narducci, which reads the line as «Ji allora già tenéa trendacingu'anni», I remake it again, as:
Midway through life, at 35 of age,
Adding this here at 18:33 on 23/4/22 I also think «at 35 years old», we'll see where this goes and which version I take.
: Bāng-tshuan-tshiu-suí, French
After recording the English of
this song, with some mistakes in it, I decide to complement it with a French version, so that I have an excuse to rerecord a more correct English, and also to have a version with at least some rhymes. For now, I only have two lines: line one from 10/10/21 17:54, line two from 25/11/22 16:28:
Il n'est plus printemps, un an s'en est allé,
Dans l'vent les feuilles sont tombées.
: Wasurenaide, Latin
Let me quote
the song's post on this one, since it's already posted even though it's incomplete. «So, Basque is decidedly too underdocumented, as I found out while trying it in
Problems. I then opted for Spanish, but before I got to it, Scorpiō Mārtiānus got to me, so I had the idea of doing Latin, so that at 2:29-2:34 on 26/8/21 I do the first two lines, then on 1/9/21 at 22:35-22:39 I do two more lines, and that's where I'm at for now». Here are the lines in question:
Ego sī ūrīnor umquam
Amōris tuī in altitūdinēs
Mihi posterus/proximus dies/djes ēvanescit
Nōn jam eum videō
: A-hue, French
On 31/10/21, for some reason (maybe I'm about to record it?), I have
A-hue on my mind and, during mass, I decide to make a French version. I start with «Moi A-hue m'vais épouser» at 11:28, then «Je m'vais/veux / Je m'vais/veux marier» at 11:30 (well, one of the two modal verb options was 11:33), and that is it. On 16/1/22 at 11:50, as I draft the post, the choice lands on the following:
Moi A-hue j'vais me marier
: More than words, Chinese
At 16/2/22 19:05, I think of «说声我爱你 / 并不是我想听你说的话», and then at 19:06 I come up with «不是我想要听你说的话». Still not sure whether I want this to be a tweak or the start of a remake.
: Fischia il vento, English
Inspired by the weather in the morning of 14/3/22, where the wind blew my umbrella inside out, I translate the first line of the song into English as «Wind is blowing, / A rainstorm rages on now». It's the only line I know, so I'll familiarize myself with the whole song and then complete this.
: Shéi lái ài wǒ, Min
10/4/22 23:13 I randomly translate the chorus of this song to Min, writing it down as:
Siang ai gua, siang ai gua,
Siang lai ai gua?
M tsai siang lai ai gua!
or in characters:
: Anywhere, Chinese remake
19/4/22 around 10:30 I write the following to myself on Facebook:
我把->将明天等待
为了小一丝灯光
我把->将明天等待
只为再见你笑面
带走我的哀愁
Then on 31/10/22 11:43-11:44 I work on the second half, and at 15:38-15:43 I finish the remake, fixing the first half as well, resulting in the following version, assembled for IAFI at 19:26 on 5/11/22. A notable middle step is «请从我破碎的 / 心里带走我的愁». I wish I could make ll. 2 and 4 rhyme, but I'm afraid I cannot.
: Papaveri e papere, Spanish
23/6/22 20:24 I think of the song and randomly translate the chorus, with «Sabes que los papáveros / Son altos, altos, altos» as the starting point, because of course "poppy" will be cognate in Italian and Spanish, right? Well, under that assumption, I think of «Qué coño/diablo vas a hacer?» at 20:27 but reject it, and then at 0:03 I finally find out it's "amapola" in Spanish, so I fix the chorus. On 18/11/22 at 20:45 I think back to this and try to make some more, but only end up with the one line «Y allí se encantó». 20/2/23 around 12:20 Turkish time I think of «Ay qué quieres hacer?», whcih is basically the same as the current «¿Y que quieres hacer?», and indeed I wasn't sure it was a tweak, but I do want that Ay in place of Y.
Sabes que son las amapolas
Altas, altas, altas,
Y tú eres pequeñita,
Y tú eres pequeñita,
Sabes que son las amapolas
Altas, altas, altas,
Naciste tú patita,
¿Ay que quieres hacer?
: Time after time, Albanian, two words
Forgetting about the previous item and thinking of a column filler to put beside the Italian, I translate two words of this song into Albanian, getting «Dhe nëse / Nëse dhe / Edhe n'se», at 3:04 or 3:17 on 15/7/22.
: Fatti mandare dalla mamma, English, two lines
I start with this version at 12:41:
Let mommy send you to the groceries
To <get> a small cārton
Then with a series of tweaks up to 12:48 (most notably groceries->grocery store) and a final version at 13:05 (where I find out "grocer's" is fine), I end up with:
Let mommy send you to the grocer's
To grab a milk cārton
: Back in the USSR, Italian, three lines
2/8/22 0:37 I do the following, completely randomly:
Torno nell'U-R
Torno nell'U-R
Torno nell'U-R-S-S!
: Never gonna give you up, Italian, chorus
On 12/8/22, just to have the chance to rickroll people in other languages, I consider translating this, and start the Italian. 1:47-1:53, chorus is basically done, there's just a rhyme that's missing, and at 2:00 I almost fix it. The result is below. The second option for l. 4 is from 15/10/22 16:32.
Con te mai non mi arren-de-rò,
Mai non ti delu-de-rò,
Mai non ti abbando-ne-rò
In giro andando. / In gir correndo.
Pianger mai non ti fa-rò,
Addïo mai non ti di-rò,
Male mai non ti fa-rò
Mentendo.
: Je partirai, English, verse 1
Now, this is one weirdo of a song.
Lyricstranslate only has the lyrics: no video, no artist. The poster is asking for that info, actually. Interacting with him, I have formed an idea of the tune, which allowed me to translate, on 19/8/22 at 10:53-11:09 with tweaks at 11:21 and 11:41, the first verse into English as below.
When I the passing days shall see
Themselves to bitterness give up,
When on our plowed fields I shall see
A stream of fog and mist stir up
Then I will leave.
: Je partirai, Greek, verse 1
Since florbox, aka Flora40, is also commenting on the page, and one of her comments may well be the reason I came about this song in the first place, I decide to do Greek too. 11:56-12:03 with a tweak 12:16, which I now decide to ditch at 0:29 on 21/8/22, so we have the result below.
22/8/22 2:00 I realize οι should be τις. Following day 15:27 I rework l. 3, and at 15:37 I add the leading Και. Result:
: Je partirai, Italian hendecasyllabics, verse 1
22/8/22 23:12-23:13 I translate this into hendecasyllabics with rhymes, because I fear a singable thing won't work because there's too few syllables. With a tweak at 0:42 the following night, the result is:
Quando vedrò il passar delle giornate
All'amarezza sé abbandonare,
Quando vedrò sui nostri campi arati
La bruma minacciosa torreggiare
Io partirò.
: Je partirai, Italian singable, verse 1
23/8/22 2:49-2:53 I do verse 1 of this, with the following result, recapped 27/8/22 1:09 while putting this translation here:
Quando vedrò nei giorni miei
Un'amarezza entrar,
Quando vedrò sui campi, ahimè,
La bruma a fiotti torreggiar,
Io me ne andrò.
OR
Quando vedrò nei giorni miei
Un'amarezza entrar,
Quando sui campi nostri, ahimè,
Vedrò la bruma torreggiar
Io me ne andrò.
: Jerusalema, Italian, two lines
On 9/9/22, as I look through my files for a certain math paper, I see a file with Jerusalems in the name, and misread as Jerusalema. I thus randomly translate two lines into Italian at 0:47. 18/6/23 23:37 I then change «O mia patrïa» to «Cara patria mia», giving the following:
O Gerusalèm,
Cara patria mia,
: Little Bitty pretty one, Italian, one line
On Sunday 11/9/22 at 11:27, in church during the quieter parts of the baptism ritual the guitarist makes soft arpeggios which, for some reason, remind me of a background song in Matilda (
Send me on my way), I mix that up with Little Bitty Pretty One and translate the titular line as «Piccola bellissima». I also think of «Piccola dolcissima.» at 11:32, but it's a mistranslation, so I undo this change.
: Tiburón, English, chorus
28/9/22 12:30, since I still have in mind the trio that went into the mishmash of
La playa, I randomly translate the chorus of this song as below, which unfortunately can't be final because rhymes are missing.
There's a shark! There's a shark!
There's a shark! There's a shark!
There's a shark, I can see it!
Oh lifeguard!
13/11/22 18:50 I do «There's a shark! It is right there!», and that is the best I can do for rhymes in this chorus. Not sure if I'll ditch this and switch to another language. In any case, the other version «I can see it is right there» from just afterwards is no better.
On 5/2/23, after realizing «bañista» is «bather», not «lifeguard», I think of «Hark, bathers!» at 21:48 and of «All out, ye!» or «Come out, y'all!» at 21:49, but neither really convinces me. I will try again in a long time.
: Perfect, Greek, part of chorus
At my cousin's wedding on 1/10/22, the song plays, and since Fabio (GH porter) suggested I should translate something modern, I translate a random line I can make out into Greek, as «Στο σκότος τραγουδά», but that's incorrect because it's "dances" not "sings", or at least that's how I remember it, so I fix that to «Στο σκότος στον χορό», and I stop there because I've never even heard this thing so I dang well better know how the song goes before I continue :). On 20/10/22 I finally listen to the thing, and do a tweak and complete part of the chorus, and after the 16:56 tweak from 22/10 the result is, as assembled for IAFI:
Μάτια μου,
Στο σκότος χωρεύω εγώ,
Στα μπράτσα σ' έχω εγώ
Στο χορτάρι ξυπόλυτος
Ακούω το τραγούδι ευνομούμενο
Just before 16:00 Turkish time on 21/2/23, as I'm having lunch, the song comes up in the restaurant, and I decide to do a couple more lines. Aside from «Ακού[γ]οντας το τραγούδι μας», which is best kept as above, let's see the result, in an intertwining assembled for IAFI on 25/2/23, where at 22:50 I decide to go with χέρια in place of μπράτσα:
Μάτια μου,
Στο σκότος χωρεύω εγώ,
Στα χέρια σ' έχω εγώ
Στο χορτάρι ξυπόλυτος
Ακούω το τραγούδι ευνομούμενο
When I saw you in that dress, looking so beautiful
Darling, Απόψε τέλεια 'σ' εσύ
: You're beautiful, Greek, one line
At 3:21-3:22 of 22/10/22 I think of
this song, and translate the titular line as Είσαι καλή, then I think "What gender should I use?", maybe καλός? So I switch to Chinese for a genderless language and go with 你好美丽, then at 3:22 I think καλός in MG means good not beautiful, so in this doubt I propose όμορφη, and όμορφος at 3:27. As I write this 17:12 22/10/22, I checked, and yes, καλός is wrong, so «Είσ' όμορφη/όμορφος» is what this should be.
: You're beautiful, Chinese, one line
To the above story, I add that 美丽 is actually eminently feminine, so let's make it 好看 or 漂亮.
: Obladi Oblada, French, chorus
On 26/10/22, thinking of, and perhaps singing, the Greek version, I map Greek ás' ta to French Ne t'en fais pas, and at 19:18 end up with:
Obladi Oblada
Ne t'en fais pas!
La-la, la vie c'est comme ça.
I then also translate the last two lines, in swapped order, at 0:16 the following night:
Pour t'amuser un peu,
Prends Obladi-blada.
: Il testamento del capitano, Chinese, one line
4/11/22, as I hear the song in an Alpini concert, I randomly translate one line as «我的Alpini要来这里» a few minutes before 22:16, then at 22:16 I think of Chinesizing it as Arpini, and at 22:20 as Alepini, let me figure out a spelling here on IAFI at 19:37 of 5/11 and then we have the below:
我的【阿乐批泥】要来这里
: There's a Dummy in the water, Italian, parts
This is Defender1031's outro song. On 22/11/22 at 12:34, I randomly translate the first line of verse 1 (as I present them below), then at 13:55 I do the ending of both verses, and at 19:50 I ponder: «Pirletto or pirlotto?». I propose below the original lyrics with the Italian parts I have done to the side of the English.
There's a Dummy in the water, | C'è un pirletto giù nell'acqua / infradiciato,
There's a Dummy hitting the wrong switch,
There's a Dummy getting flopped (?),
There's a Dummy getting squished,
There's a Dummy getting hit with a fish.
Here's a Dummy, | È un pirletto,
There's a Dummy, | C'è un pirletto,
He's a Dummy: | È un pirletto:
That's all there is! | È tutto qua/qui!
There's a Dummy in the forest,
There's a Dummy soon filled with regret,
There's a Dummy in a trap,
There's a Dummy in a troll,
There's a Dummy slippin' on spaghett.
Here's a Dummy, | È un pirletto,
There's a Dummy, | C'è un pirletto,
He's a Dummy: | È un pirletto:
That's all there is! | È tutto qua/qui!
: Namida no mukou, Italian, possible remake start
30/11/22 11:27, either noting the "kedo" at the end of this part in the Japanese or wanting to use a more natural word order (or both), I retranslate this part of the song:
Ah ah, io non so volare
Come un uccello però!
: Wo de hao xiongdi, English, tweak or remake start
On 4/1/23, just into the shower at I'd say around 11:20, I think of «Or do you want to strongly live?», find it weird, think it'd be better as «Or do you want to live strongly?» but wouldn't fit the tune, and change it to «Or do you want to live with strength?». Not sure yet whether I will implement this in the old translation, or use it as the start of a new one. I will definitely make a rhyming remake for this.
6/1/23 12:45, while recording the Greek version, or maybe just after finishing, I write to myself a message where I give the following chorus, dating ll. 1-2 to 11:42 and the rest to 11:43, obviously writing 11 instead of 12 both times, and expressing a doubt on the use of shīqù which I have not been able to clear up with Wiktionary:
我们的内心
它没有迷路->一定没迷路
我们的脚步
一定没有失去你的道路(?)
: Accireme, Chinese, one line
On 13/1/23, I run into this song, and immediately translate l. 1 as 请打死我 at 12:41.
: Accireme, Italian, one line
On 13/1/23, right after the Chinese above, I do the Italian: Uccidimi. Easiest thing ever.
: L'Italiano, Russian, 2 lines
After finding Dušá moĵá v gitárĵe, which you can find in Complete as of this update of IAFI, I think of how to complete it, and translate these two lines of L'Italiano as a first idea, 18/2/23 23:16:
Боже, привет!
Ты знаешь, я тоже вдесь.
As you will see, these were eventually stripped out of Dusha moja.
: You're the sweetest name of all, Greek, 2 lines
19/2/23 11:02 Turkish time, at mass, they sing this hymn, I mishear it as «You're the sweetest, sweetest thing of all», and translate it as:
Εσύ στον κόσμο είσαι το πιο γλυκό
I only finally think back to this and fix the error at 12:28 on 14/5/23:
Είσαι στον κόσμο το πιο γλυκό 'νομα.
: Look down, Chinese, one line
13/3/23 16:01, probably a spur of the moment due to work on "Do you hear the people sing?" which is from the same Les Misérable musical, I translate one line of this as 看下,看下:. If I even complete this, I'll probably stop at the prisoners' song, and accurately avoid translating the whole Javert-Jean Valjean dialogue. Also because Jean Valjean and Chinese "yī" for "one" will never rhyme. Or do I near-rhyme with "yāo"? Hmm…
: Attenti al lupo, Chinese, one line
As I wrote 27/3/23 20:15, I remember having one line of
this in Chinese, something like 在一座就这样小的房子 or maybe 有一座 ecc. Fairly certain it's from after melograno zh, but when?
: Al Signore canterò, Chinese, chorus
In the night between 30 and 31/3/23, having come back from rehearsing it for tomorrow (2/4/23)'s mass, I think of it and translate the chorus to Chinese at 0:03-0:10:
我会唱歌于天主,
会赞扬他的名称,
永远直到我作古
总都会感谢他
Then on 20/5/23 at 13:13 I remake this chorus as follows, the line 会赞扬他的名字 changing to the below at 13:17:
我会向天主歌唱
会把他的名字赞扬

: Zui shouxi de moshengren, Turkish rhyming remake, one line
Having had it in mind for quite some time to remake this translation because it doesn't fit the tune for shit, on 14/4/23 at 18:53 I finally work a bit to come up with the aorist interrogative of hatırlamak and eventually produce «Hatırlar mısın?». How long will this whole translation take?
: Seigneur où es-Tu, Japanese, chorus 1 line 1
On 24/4/23 at 11:24, I randomly translate chorus 1 line 1 as «Doko desu ka?», and then into Turkish as below. Then on 26/4/23 at 19:01 I amend that to «Doko deshô,».
: Seigneur où es-Tu, Turkish, chorus 1 line 1
On 24/4/23 at 11:24, just after version 1 of the Japanese above, I randomly translate chorus 1 line 1 as «Neredesin?».
: Nulla con Te mi mancherà, English, 2 lines
At 9:20 on 14/5/23, presumably while having breakfast before setting off for my cousin's first communion in Bologna, I randomly start this thing:
Nothing with You will I e'er lack,
This life of mine will bloom again. -> flower->blosso.
20/2/24 I think back to this in the shower and, convinced I only have l. 1, I think of l. 2, going with either «This life of mine will flower again» (intermediate version above), or «This life of mine in bloom will be back», commenting «presumably agenn to near-rhyme with lack (so not agayne), and back-lack is the first rhyme I could think of» at 19:21 upon writing this down right after the shower. So I guess nothing new here, the version above is definitely better than both, rhyme or no rhyme :).
: Zhiyou ni Wang Jie, Milanese, 2 lines
Another random translation start, this time from 14/5/23 18:03, so during the celebrations. Why I thought of this, I have no clue. Anyway, apart from "folla" becoming "calchera" (and the initial "Chi" thus being dropped) on 16/5/23 at 14:46 thanks to Glosbe, the start is the following:
Ndella calchera schiscià
Me voeuri püü girà.
: Salelaka Mokonzi, Spanish, 2 verses and the chorus
21/5/23 18:15-18:20 I randomly decide to translate the chorus of this to Spanish, starting from «Trabaja por el Señor, / Tu vas a ser muy feliz OR tan feliz», soon correcting to «para», then going through «¡Oh cuan feliz tú serás!» (soon discarded), «Cierto (/De hecho) vas a ser feluz.», and eventually the form below. Verse 1 is done from 19:59 to 20:02, doing l. 2 last. Verse 2 is from 20:02-20:04.
El amor del Señor
Súpera la grandeza
Por esto Él nos envió
Jesús el Salvador
Trabaja para el Señor,
De cierto serás feliz.
La voz del angel se
Vino a ti, oh María, / Vino hasta/hacia ti, María
Diste a la luz Emmanuel,
El Cristo, el Redemptor
On 25/5/23 at 21:09, while entering mass, I think of «Y te volverás feliz», and immediately also «Feliz te vas a volver», and I'm not sure what to pick.
: Un'emozione per sempre, Chinese, 2 lines
26/5/23 I randomly think of this song and start making a Chinese version, getting «直到永远的<> -> 永不<停止> / / 有些<>就留给你» at 22:36 and the below at 22:38:
: Sarà perché ti amo, English, titular line
28/5/23 between 21:40 and 21:42 I randomly translate the titular line as «Must be because I love you». I'm pretty sure I had it in mind to go into Greek because of S'agapao (so that one went to Italian 2 years ago, now this one, its Italian twin, goes into Greek), but I was wondering how to render this "guessing future" of Italian. The next day, after learning I can use the future in Greek too, and tweaking the Greek, I modify the English at 12:17 into the following:
It must be 'cause I love you
: Sarà perché ti amo, Greek, titular line
28/5/23 at 21:42, after the English version, I randomly translate the titular line as «Πρέπει να 'σαι->'ναι γι' αγάπη». The next day, after learning I can use the future in Greek too, I make that «Θα 'ναι γιατί σ' αγαπάω» at 11:33, and the following at 12:04:
Θα 'ναι γιατί αγαπώ σε
: Lo spazzacamino, English, two lines
Let me just amass the text of this song here, marking the first translated lines with *:
Su e giù per le contrade
Di qua e di là si sente
Cantare allegramente
È lo spazzacamin
(2x)
S'affaccia alla finestra
Una signorinella
Con la sua voce bella
Chiama lo spazzacamin
(2x)
In casa lo fa entrare
E poi lo fa sedere
Dà da mangiare e bere
Allo spazzacamin
(2x)
E dopo aver mangiato
Mangiato e ben bevuto
Gli fa vedere il buco*
Il buco del camin*
(2x)
Mi spiace giovinotto
Che il mio camino è stretto
Povero giovinotto
Come farai a salir?
(2x)
Non dubiti signora
Son vecchio del mestiere
So fare il mio dovere
Sono spazzacamin
(2x)
E dopo quattro mesi
La luna va crescendo
La gente va dicendo:
È lo spazzacamin
(2x)
E dopo nove mesi
È nato un bel bambino
Che somigliava tutto
Allo spazzacamin
(2x)
And on 9/6/23 I had this song in mind, and randomly translated the *-lines as «Then she shows him her hole, / The chimney's hole, I mean». By the way, the internet lyrics are different from the ones I've heard, in that these lines say "spazzare" there instead of "vedere", and the penultimate verse of my text is missing.
: Ty, Min Nan, verse 1
On 22/6/23 I count the translations of this song and realize one of them is unpaired. To have a series of videos with three languages, I try starting Chinese. I get «你怀里 / 我找到了我位置» at 17:30, but that doesn't rhyme, and the zhi rhyme is hard, so I think: can I make it rhyme by changing dialect? And that's how I move to Min Nan, dialectifying line 2 by 17:39-40. I then complete the verse the next day, at 14:46-48, then 14:54-15:03, and finally 15:27-15:32:
你怀里
我揣到啦阮位置
痛苦遮完全缺席
阮的灵魂就休憩
伫阮怀里
鼻着你香水之时
内心就填满爱意
若欲安全我就揣你
: Kimi ga ireba, Chinese remake, titular line
On 2/7/23 at 17:51 I randomly translate the titular line (or maybe the post has it as a couplet?) of this song, which came to mind for Idk what reason:
你来与我同在,我才会发光哦
Nǐ lái yǔ wǒ tóng zài, wǒ cái huì fāguāng ó
: L'amore mio sei tu, Greek, titular line
28/7/23, as I play with my mobile with my cousin, the song comes on TV, and I randomly translate the titular line at 22:16: Η αγάπη μου 'σαι εσύ -> 'σύ. Actually, at the same stamp, I try translating another line as Η αγάπη δεν έχει <> ("senso"?). Welp, here are
a video and the lyrics, since I don't know them:
Può nascere dovunque
Anche dove non ti aspetti
Dove non l'avresti detto
Dove non lo cercheresti
Può crescere dal nulla
E sbocciare in un secondo
Può bastare un solo sguardo
Per capirti fino in fondo
Può invadere i pensieri
Andare dritto al cuore
Sederti sulle scale
Lasciarti senza parole
L'amore ha mille steli
L'amore ha solo un fiore
Può crescere da solo
E svanire come niente
Perché nulla lo trattiene
O lo lega a te per sempre
Può crescere su terre
Dove non arriva il sole
Apre il pugno di una mano
Cambia il senso alle parole
L'amore non ha un senso
L'amore non ha un nome
L'amore bagna gli occhi
L'amore scalda il cuore
L'amore batte i denti
L'amore mio sei tu
L'amore mio sei
L'amore non ha un senso
L'amore non ha un nome
L'amore non ha torto
L'amore non ha ragione
L'amore batte i denti
L'amore scalda il cuore
Può renderti migliore
E cambiarti lentamente
Ti da tutto ciò che vuole
E in cambio non ti chiede niente
Può nascere da un gesto
Dall'accenno di un sorriso
Da un saluto, da uno sbaglio
Da un percorso condiviso
L'amore non ha un senso
L'amore non ha un nome
L'amore bagna gli occhi
L'amore scalda il cuore
L'amore batte i denti
L'amore non ha ragione
L'amore non ha un senso
L'amore non ha un nome
L'amore bagna gli occhi
L'amore scalda il cuore
L'amore batte i denti
L'amore non ha ragione
L'amore mio sei tu
L'amore mio sei
L'amore mio sei tu
L'amore mio sei
: La fameia dei gobbon, Greek, one verse and chorus
29/7/23 11:16-11:48, partly during lunch partly after it, I make the following translation, which I send to Kika in the left-side form form:
: E poi vieni dietro me, Chinese, chorus
Being told I should cover Anas's songs, on 31/7/23 at 9:24 I translate three lines of the chorus of this song, with «你所有的请你都卖», and with the possible option «去去去去». I complete the chorus at 10:02-10:03 after listening to it. At 10:11, «请你跟我一起来» becomes the below.
Then on 24/11/23 I'm in a "meeting" where the song is performed as introduction, so I hear the rehearsals and realize I mismemorized. At 20:55 I remove the 都 from l. 2, and at 20:58-21:15 I do verse 1, the meeting starting in between. Here is the result in an intertwining:
Con l'affanno del futuro |
Guarda i passeri del cielo |
chi si occupa di loro?
Vai, vai, vai, vai |
Vai, vai, vai, vai |
e poi vieni dietro a me | 请你跟着我而来
Se sei triste è perché speri
solo in quello che vuoi tu
ti ricattano i tuoi sogni
ne sei schiavo sempre più
Rit.
Guarda i gigli del campo
son vestiti come re
A te manca soltanto
di venire dietro a me.
Rit.
Lascia le tue sicurezze
costruite senza me
che ti lasciano da solo
mentre io aspetto te
Rit.
E poi vieni dietro a me
Mm, mm, dietro a me
: Time after time, Romanian, remake, Hanamidō and petal lines remade, recovering what's before them
(On 3/8/23, by chance, at 10:07-10:10 I make the last two lines of the first "verse" of the Romanian remake. For convenience I recovered, at least temporarily, the rest of that verse from the old translation.).
Dacă chiar
Eu de șansă aș putea să-ti întâlnesc
Iarăși
Nicicând mâna ta nu am să las
“Sfârșește primăvara”
Anunță hanamidō-l
Înnorează
Într-ochii mei o petală
I ramdomly come back to this on Christmas day 2023, noting that both iarăși and nicicând have one syllable less than the translation would require them to have. I remake that couplet at 0:15 as follows, though the rhyme is not achieved, and the remake was missing "incă o", which I added 13:35 27/12/23 while putting this here:
Mâna ta
Eu nicicând n-am s-o las incă o odată
--: Se tu sapessi, Chinese (choruses and verse 1) + Min+Hakka (one line)
«I think I started maybe with a bit of Mandarin, 如果你知道 or the likes, then switched to Min 若知影啥人共你, then Hakka, then I looked up 一起 for Min and completed 若知啥人共你做伙». Thus I wrote to myself on 3/8/23 at 17:58, after writing the first Hakka line «He ti mai-sa kak nyi khiung-ha» at 17:54. I then continue till 18:15, finishing verse 1 and chorus 1. After a few tweaks later that evening and another two the following afternoon, it is at 15:26-16:06 on 4/8/23 that I complete the below, where the second option for l. 1 is from 19:43 on 23/9/23:
Ná tsai siâng teh kā lí tsò-hué
Hè ti mâi-sâ kak nyî khiûng-hà
: Se tu sapessi, English, two lines
While the previous translations were done right after what was probably the first listen I gave to this whole song, the next one is from the games evening on 3/8/23. Specifically, between 21:52 and 22, I go through a unch of versions of l. 2, and finally land on:
If you just knew who's here with you,
You'd be the one to ask for water,
At 23 that sae night, I make the shorter version of l. 1:
If you knew who's here with you
: Ela ela mu kondà supermix, Italian, choruses + an kanei rodinó couplet + bukaleddha quatrain + miccèddha quatrain
Well, uh, so, I have
this behemoth going, which I'm in the process of preparing a massive update for, and that will tell you all about this song. Here, I will only note a few things. First off, on 21/8/23 at 18:56 I translated the chorus, and then retranslated it two minutes later. It probably took a few days before I thought of using one translation for Greko choruses and the other for Griko ones. The an kanei rodinó couplet is from 26/8/23 at 1:59-2:01, and the other couplet is from 18:08-18:14 the same day. 31/8/23 16:26 I came up with «Solo qua non mi lasciar», probably to replace «Ché io qui da solo sto.» and near-rhyme with «Stammi presso, vieni qua,». With that, I proceed to give you the supermix, which was composed already with spaces for the translation, so it still has a bunch of gaps:

On 11/10/23, I then had about 1h to kill where I wasn't willing to work, so I tried doing some translations. I decided against virtually every translation, then landed on this one, and at 18:40-42 I tweaked and copleted the bukaleddhe verse. I then completed and tweaked Nel silenzio della notte Greek and Ma non avere paura Greek, as you can see in Complete (or in their posts when they come out). Now, updating the interwtining is a lot of work because the text needs an update, and it's 0:50 on 13/10/23 so I don't have time for that. I will give you the completed verse below, and that's it for now.
I fiori profumati tuoi lassù.
I then let this sit a bunch, because I have other things to tend to, because Karanastasis is not complete in Italian, because I'm probably a bit tired, and because I don't want to burden Nick Nicholas with any further questions for a while. Then on 5/12/23 I think about it again, and at 14:54 I translate the first Calabrian verse:
Tu bimba mia dalla montagna vieni,
E io, ragazzo, vengo dãl mar.
Ora che tu ti sei fatta grande,
Io ti vorrei proprio sposar.
: Credo in Te Signore, Chinese, two lines
22/8/23 21:01, randomly thinking of starting to sing it in Chinese at the rehearsal for this 6/9/23 evening about Mother Theresa of Kolkata (or whatever her name is in English), I translate the first two lines to Chinese:
我相信于你,天主,
相信于你的爱情/恋爱/慈爱
: Se parakaló: fýge, Japanese, two lines
9/9/23 18:55 I randomly translate "Se parakaló" with "Onegai yo", leaving "fýge" still untranslated because I have to look up the verb. I think it up the next day at 12:31:~30, and the following day at 23:52 I add another line, getting to:
お願いよ:行け! | Onegai yo: ike!
Hitori de itai
: Tu sei la mia vita, Greek, verse 1
On 23/9/23, I think of translating this song to Greek, and at 19:56-20:12, over dinner, I do the first verse which, with the 20:34 "(?)" alternative for the "In your word" line, comes out to be like this:
Which is already basically fine, as per Kika's comments on 13/12/13 at 18:03, where she chooses the (?) versions of those two lines, and suggests to avoid the repetition at the end, ending up with:
Είσαι η ζωή μου,
Κι όσο εσύ θα το θες,
: Azzurro, French, chorus
16/6/23 14:08 random translation, immediately ditched with comment «Except -ė would be feminine which après-midi isn't».
Azurė,
L'après-midi est trop azure et longuė
Pour moi
But then on 5/10/23 at 0:33-34, after having it in mind for a while, I think, I finally set down «Trop azur, / L'après-midi, il est trop azur et long / Pour moi,», imitating the English, and «Ici sans toi». On 9/10/23 at 17:20-17:30 I finish the chorus:
Trop azur,
Alors moi
Peut-être je vais prendre un train
Et m'en v'nir, m'en v'nir là-bas
Mais le train, le train des désirs
Dans mes pensées va seulement à l'invers.
: Let it be, Italian, titular line
5/10/23 at night, in bed. I'm imagining parts of "A lifetime of translations", and in particular where I discuss what the earliest translation that I came across was, and I think of mentioning our non-musical translation of the Beatles' Let it be to Italian, where "Let it be" became "Lascia che sia", which kind of fits the tune. Before 1:41, I think that «Lascia star» would fit it better, but I'm not sure what exactly this line means so for now I'm leaving it here. Will come back to it eventually.
: Quant'è dolce, o Salvatore, Chinese, chorus
14/10/23 I randomly translate over half of this chorus as «请你拿走我的生活 / 我把它给你->将 / / 活在<>里» at 14:14. At 14:59 I do the last line as 活在信仰里, at 15:01 I do l. 3, and at 15:01:~30 I fix the last line, getting to the below:
请你拿走我的生活
我将它给你
你的恩惠已赠送过
我活在信仰里
: Azzurro, Spanish, two lines
5/11/23 8:44-8:48 I randomly translate the first two lines, perhaps to have a column-filler next to the French:
Busco el verano todo el año,
Y al improviso él está acá.
: Le mani alzate verso Te, Signor, Chinese, chorus
10/11/23 14:27 I randomly translate the titular line of this. Seriously, I'm writing the night after that, and I have no idea why :). Then in the evening, 21:39-21:42, I complete the chorus, getting to the below:
天主,我向你提起我双手
要将世界给你
天主,我向你提起我双手
我心底感动欢喜
On 22/11/23, as I rehearse the hymns for the following weekend's mass, I think of this and, trying to guess the second line to sing it, I deform it as 全世界要给你. I don't realize it's not the one I have here on IAFI till the next day at 15:51, when I decide it's better, and also think of 我心底感到欢意. 感动 was definitely a typo, but, as I write to myself at 15:52, «Not apparently [Replying to Does 欢意 exist?]. 快意 is pleased so no, 悦意 maybe.». I'll give both options.
: Gud som haver barnen kär, Italian hendecasyllabics, ll. 4 and 6
12/11/23 10:38, in the middle of Mass, I randomly translate l. 4 of this to Italian, following it with a rhyming translation of l. 6. I don't know why I did this, but I remember thinking of playing this on the organ since the rites after communion were taking a silent moment since I'd stopped playing the communion hymn. Why I went from Tue mani to Sue mani when the original is Guds händer, I have no clue. Undoing that now, 14:59/15:00 on 19/11/23. And right after that at 15:00 I do l. 5, to complete a tercet. And at 15:02 I do l. 3, for the rhyme, changing ch'io to io soon after typing it here. Here's an intertwining:
^Gud som haver barnen kär,^
^Se till mig som liten är.^
Ovunque io in questo mondo sia,
La mia letizia sta nelle Sue mani
La letizia sen viene e sen va via,
Tu, Padre, sempre insieme a noi rimani.
: Goganga, Chinese, parts of verse 1
18/11/23 in the shower, between 11:32 and 11:44, I translate parts of this into Chinese. Later that morning, I also think of how to adapt the nonsense chorus. Putting in 口哨 for "fischio" at 13:59 on 21/11/23, here's an intertwining. I put the Italian lyrics too because apparently the official ones are different from what I memorized from the video.
Come vede, sono affetto
Da questo grave difetto:
Goganga, goganga,
Goganga ghe ga
Ghe ga go goganga go ga
Ghe ga go goganga go
: E poi vieni dietro me, English, line 1
24/11/23 21:30, as I think of how to fill the column and about the language problem in IAFI, I just start English because that will fix the language of the post as English, and I do l. 1: «Since you're anxious for your future». Later at 22:31 I change anxious to worried.
Since you're worried for your future,
: Bekuar, Italian, first two lines
Again while updating the message, I start this translation 14/12/23 0:12 with «Tu sei / Un miracolo in terra, sei» then changed to «Miracolo quaggiù, tu sei», and then I'm stuck looking for a rhyme, so I leave it there, and move to Greek for whatever reason.
: Bekuar, Greek, chorus
This is once again on 14/12/23, but at 0:35-0:59, and ends up with the following rendition of the chorus:
OR
Είσ' εσύ,
The first ending has the problem of near-rhymes and a "Chinese rhyme", besides a billion possible final lines, whereas the alternate ending has that Κρατώ … στις γροθιές μου which doesn't convince me.
: Go tell it on the mountins, Chinese, chorus
A random thought on 15/12/23, this translation for now has only the chorus, with the following full history: «去/来,告诉那些山顶», 2:21; «在山顶上告诉», 2:22; «小山(?) Thus:
: Lōng-tsú--ê sim-tsîng, Chinese, incomplete Mandarinization
Another random thought, the final line on 15/12/23 2:20, reading 我我心里的孤寂, with subsequent «Did I already make this translation?». And I kind of did: I have a partial Mandarinization of this where the last line is 我心內的寂寞. So now I have a rhyme, which gives the following Mandarinization-translation hybrid:
*浪子的心情
好像天上闪烁的流星
浪子的运命
好像锅内蚂蚁的心里
#我也是了解
生命的意義
我也是了解
玩儿是白费时间
我也是想要
好好來過日子
我也是想要我也是
想要重新來做起
谁才会了解
谁会来安慰
我我心里的孤寂
: So' sajitu aju Gran Sassu, Italian, three lines
As I update
the blog's todo list on 22/12/23, having the relevant item kind of thrown in my face given how big it is, I decide to start doing this, and to lines 1-3 at 1:24. This is about all I know by heart, hence why I stop there. Also, I originally thought of translating this to Chinese when adding it to the candidates, but whatever :). Here they are:
Son salito in cima al Gran Sasso,
Son rimasto ammutolito:
Mi pareva, passo a passo,
+: Barbie girl, French parts, and Italian invention
Well, since this is an English song, I'mma postify it already. We're talking, of course, about
Barbie girl, which just randomly popped up in my mind in the morning of 2/1/24.
I thought the line «Come on Barbie, let's go party» went «Everybody loves somebody» or «Everybody needs somebody», so at 9:25 I went, «A ciascuno serve qualcuno», then at 9:29 «Ad ognuno serve qualcuno», and at 9:30 «{Perché ognuno / E ciascuno} ama qualcuno». This is gonna stay tucked away in here for now. Maybe one day I'll find a song with that line and put that there.
I then was thinking of the "life in plastic" couplet, and figured it would be complicated in Italian, but easier in French, so «Vie d' plastique: / Fantastique! | Je suis une Barbie OR Moi j'suis u.B. / Dans un monde Barbie | J'suis avec toi partout | Parce que chacun aime quelqu'un» all at 9:37, then «Imagination / La vie c'est ta crėation» at 9:41/42. And this is another mistake, because the line I thought was «I'm with you everywhere» is actually «undress me everywhere», which I correctly render at 16:01 as I prepare to put this here, and the result is the below, with just French. But also, "the Barbie world", not "a Barbie world". My memory from back in the days of Middle School is all wrong… anyway, 16:05 fix that in the French.
Hiya, Barbie
Hi, Ken
You want to go for a ride?
Sure, Ken
Jump in
# I'm a Barbie girl,
In the Barbie world
Life in plastic,
It's fantastic
You can brush my hair,
Undress me everywhere

Come on, Barbie, let's go party

I'm a blonde bimbo girl

Feel the glamour in pink
Kiss me here, touch me there,

Let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie,
Let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
*
Make me walk, make me talk,
Do whatever you please
I can act like a star,
I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend,
Let us do it again

Let's go party

: Arní-m, m' apovradhä́şkese, Italian, chorus
This time it's not for a translation candidates update that I start translating this Pontic Greek song called
Αρνί-μ, μ' αποβραδϳάϲκεσαι | Arní-m, m' apovradhä́şkese, it's instead completely at random :). Let me give you the full progression so far (BR means lineBReak):
- Deh vieni dalle fughe tue BR Al nido del mio amore. AND Mi duole molto/forte il cuore, 3/1/23 19:58;
- Deh, lascia le tue fughe, e vie- BR ni al nido del mio amore., 4/1/23 14:40;
- Agnel mio, non mi far tardar:, 14:42;
- Agnello mio, non ti attardar / non indugiar, 14:42;
- Ho tanto mal di cuore -> male al cuore, 18:16.
Which leads to:
Agnello mio, non ti attardar:
Ho tanto male al cuore!
Deh, lascia le tue fughe, e vie-
ni al nido del mio amore.
: L'infinito, English remake, line 1
I've been meaning to remake this for a while, as at least l. 1 was not very good (but l. 2 too). At 0:29 on 12/1/24, I finally start with line 1:
This lonely hill was always dear to me,
Un soldino, |
Non si vede, |
Non si vede, |
Ho nascosto |
Un soldino, |
Non si vede, |
Eppure c'è: |
Dov'è? |
: Des me, Italian, half chorus
14/1/24, for an en plein, after discarding the Romagnolo of this, I go with Italian, dropping the "me" and only translating the "des", and get half the chorus translated at 16:04:
Guarda:
Le inferriate mie sto rompendo,
Me stesso sto conoscendo,
Sto ririempiendo
Della mia clessidra il tempo.
: Dacă tace chitara, Gree, titular line plus similar line
28/1/24, for an en plein, Idk why I go for Greek and do the titular line as Αν σιωπάει η κιθάρα at 22:51. Then on 10/2/24 I think back to this, and shortly after 10:40 I have a doubt: Να μιλάει η κιθάρα, or Να μιλήσει η κιθάρα? Then at 12:59 I think Ας would fit better, so the recap is:
Αν σιωπάει η κιθάρα
[…]
: La femme adultère, English, parts of chorus
1/2/24 I just randomly come up with «You who've never ever ever ever sinned» at 9:42, and then «Come and cast the first stone <upon/unto> her» at 9:42 reconstructed 9:44, and then I have a couple questions: «How keep rhyme in "You who've never ever [triché]"? How musically render "Mais fais bien attention"? Italian "Ma fa ben attenzion", ditch immediately». At 9:44 I come up with «Cast the first stone upon/unto this woman» because that line is kind of unsingable. I consider maybe ditching this. Anyway, for now I have:
Cast the first stone upon/unto this woman
You who've never ever ever ever sinned
: Tu sei un Dio fedele, Chinese, chorus
On 14/2/24 I see this song proposed in the Carate hymn group. After a bit of surprise, at 16:11 I randomly translate the chorus into Chinese:
你就是直到永恒
忠诚的天主
: E di, Italian, first section
4/3/24 8:43 I randomly have this song in mind and start a translation:
Lo so
Ah cos'eri lo so
Non ha da passar l'anno
Senza che ci separiam
Actually, not really randomly: Lyricstranslate has started complaining about wrong formatting on several of my additions, including this song. The fact there is no explanation of what is incorrect is very annoying. Anyway, I then modify this to reach the below at 8:46, just later undoing the «Pria che finisca l'anno» tweak just after thinking it:
Lo so
Ah cos'eri lo so
Prima di fine anno
Noi ci separerem
15/3/24 I make the next 4 lines at 9:19 and another one at 9:20:
Pretty gal,
Pretty gal, anormal,
Would it come out better in Lombard than in Italian? I think at 0:48 on 17/3/24 as I put this in.
: Pensiero dominante, Greek, two lines
On 7/3/24, this poem is read as part of the "ordine del giorno" at a CL meeting, and at 21:39-21:43, I producethe following two Greek lines, which unfortunately I couldn't get to rhyme:
Τρομερέ κι ισχυρέ
: Buonanotte fiorellino, Greek, titular line
21/3/24 0:22, after the English, I think Greek would fare better considering it has diminutives, and hence:
Καληνύχτα,
And once more that's it, because I know no more of the song as of now.
: Buonanotte fiorellino, English, titular line
21/3/24 0:19 I randomly come up with:
Nighty-night now,
Nighty-night, dear
Little flower
: Boku ga iru, Chinese 5-syllable lines, first section
20/3/24 16:28 I have this song in mind and translate the first section as follows:
一变得明天,
就干了眼泪,
内心也变色
: Jingle bells, French, two lines of chorus
As I walk on the lungomare in Siracusa on 28/3/24, I think of this song for some reason, and at 14:28 I send myself the following message:
Sonne, clochet,
..
Sonne toute la rue / jusqu'au bout
Clochette
Toute la route
: Shoujo no koro ni modotta mitai ni, German remake, first section
2/4/24 13:05-13:08 I have some time to kill before going to renew my driver's licence, so I start this remake with the following:
Als ich aus meinen wiederkehrenden
Träumen aufzuwachen vêrsuche,
Dann immer stell' ich fest, dass mein Herz
Doch wirkligh sehr schnell schlägt.
The following are the parts of the old translation I deemed recoverable a while ago, which I may ditch anyway because this new section has near-rhymes and the old things don't:
Als ob ich in
Die Zeit zurückgėkehrt wärė,
Als ich noch klein war,
Immėr hab’ ich
Auf einė Hand gėwartėt die so
Warm und zärtlich wie deinė Hand
Meinė Haarė streicht.
O Liebėr,
Nur du wirst mich zu einẹr
Zärtlichėn
Frau machėn könnėn.
O wie ich dich doch mag
O wie ich dich sẹhr mag.
<Donna ni jônetsu katamukete mo
Wakariaenai hito mo iru.>
Hier in meinėm rotėm Hẹrz.
Lovin’ you
Zusammėn mit dir…
: Marinella, Chinese, first and last verses
On 3/4/24 I feel dozeoffy so at 16:54-17:04 I take a sort-of nap. At 17:14, I formalize an idea relevant to this translation that I had during that "nap":
我向你们告诉马厉捏啦真转:
她<>河川
By 17:17 verse 1 is complete. I look up the lyrics, thinking maybe I will finish the translation, but it's way too long. However, at 17:20-17:31, I do the last verse, the only other one (I think) where the name appears. The result is the following intertwining. Oh sorry, I did not complete verse 1 in that range, I only completed the first couplet and then also modified it, then the second couplet and the other verse are from the other range.
Furono baci furono sorrisi
Poi furono soltanto i fiordalisi
