Never turning back

Speaking of fighting and enduring, which has been the theme for a couple posts, we have today a Mandarin song called 永远不回头 | Yǒngyuǎn bù huítóu, "I will never turn back". I had contemplated the idea of translating it for some time when, in the evening of 14/11/18, I finally translated 1/4 of the first part into Italian. The next evening, I translated the second part and the last line of the first part, and the next morning, I finished it. Then, between 00:00 and 1:00 of 17/11, perhaps to fill the column next to Italian, I translated the whole thing into English. Though «'Sta vita ha da averli entrambi» doesn't agree with me that much, let's see if I can improve it while drafting this on 17/12/18 at 17:02… Done before 17:02 even arrived :). And around 17:03 I was done with changing «Se il buio mi prova / Se il fuoco mi brucia» to their present form. The change from «And maybe change my promise» to the present form was made 17/11/18 11:49, but somehow got lost on its way to the blog. Let's see the results!

Speaking of fighting and enduring as in the previous song, we have a Mandarin song called 向太阳怒吼 | Xiàng tàiyáng nǔhòu, "Roar to the sun". I had been contemplating the idea of translating this for quite some time when, on 31/10/18, I finally translated it into English in the evening. Here it goes!

Per forte contrasto, dalle canzoni energiche di persone che si sforzano, lottano, faticano tanto, oggi abbiamo Placido, che ci racconta la storia di "un buono a nulla che santo diventò". La traduzione in Cinese mi è stata suggerita la sera del 16/1/19, e subito ho tradotto le strofe 1 e 8, e i ritornelli più tardi. Il giorno seguente, intorno a mezzanotte, ho tradotto le strofe 2 e 3. Dopo la mezzanotte del 19/1/19, infine, ho completato la traduzione che vedete sotto. Vediamola!

Today, 不够勇敢 | Bù gòu yǒnggǎn gives the post its title. It was translated to English in the late evening of 25/3/19 and in the night after that. Let's see!

Walking on

The fighting-in-life theme is strong with our song series, and we keep it today with a Cantonese song, 继续行 | Gai3-zuk6 hang4, which means "Walking on". It's year 2 song 88. I translated it to English on 10/10/19, between 16:15 and 16:52. Removed "so" from l. 4 before "far" at 22:57 to better fit the tune. Let's see it!

Always fought for myself

And we're still on the fighting theme, and back to Min Nan too, with 男人的汗 | Lâm-lîn--ê kuānn, "Man's sweat", but it really should be titled 查埔人的汗 | Tsa-poo-lâng--ê kuānn, given that this is what the song actually says.
In any case, the first record of the song is in Session 15 from 23/6/12, the previous one being from 18/6/12, so I probably met it within that timeframe. It only first appears in the 3/9/12 songs file though, with the below original version of the translation, super-incomplete, and dated to 26/8/12 by the mega-intro.
On 9/10/12, my corrector at the time came to my home, and suggested some corrections, though I believe he also had trouble figuring out the Min. This produced, presumably, the middle mistranslation, which is first recorded in a 17/3/13 mail attachment, and is still incomplete.
This is what remains until blog times. Then, when drafting this post… «oh my, I only translated half of it (the first half), though I did revise it! Is it in my translations notes perhaps? Nope! Well, I'll have to finish it right now, at 11:04 on 11/9/2018, then. Or rather at 11:49 after readying the rest of the post. Let's see what comes out!».
We then have an English remake, which is for now only three lines so IAFI and intro. Here's the IAFI quote: «On 11/8/21 at 0:20, I decide I'm going to remake the English version of this song, and get three lines done: Life brought me to this / Mountain of a place / Where I've found gods too lonely feel».
That quote was mostly to explain the IAFI quote on the French: « Later that night, at 0:34-1:24, I try my hand at a French version, doing half of it». It then takes all the way to 21/11/22 19:12-19:35 before I take this up again and complete it, with a tweak the next day at 13:02. And it took till now, 22/11/22 13:07, to realize "montaigne" is a spello. And now here we are.
So let's see this bad boy.

Time to work together

Speaking of fighting for oneself, here is a song about working together for a better future. This song, a Haitian Creole song which I think [this Youtube video has since emerged to confirm my suspicion, and I have also recorded my own video of the song] is titled Pa ret ap domi, "Don't stop in a sleeping state", or less literally "Don't keep sleeping", is one I met via a Bay Ridge band (or otherwise) CD where it was recorded with a blatantly English accent and the booklet had lyrics with at least two misspelligs and a somewhat wrong translation, so today I want to make clarity on this, and also to put my English and Chinese translations online, which date to Jul 27 2018, except for the line "Vini nan jan ou ye" which dates to Sep 3, when this Quora question finally got Olivier Coq's answer. The English version of it originally read «Come with us how you are», not sure when it changed, but before Sep 11. I later translated it to Italian, 12:22-12:26 2/4/20. Speaking of acknowledgements, I asked half a billion questions about this song. I originally mentioned a bunch of them here, but I have since made a decipherment post for this song, so I'll shove them over there, and only mention this one here, where Mario Arash's answer (or rather a comment to it by him replying to mine) helped the Chinese version by suggesting alternate versions to the lines «请举头来看上» and «请你提起裤子，扣上腰带。» on Jul 28. There was a little hiccup in the first line, as per the decipherment post, which says «So this line means either "Don't stop or you'll sleep, my friend" or "Don't stop in the state of sleeping, my friend", which I wish I could render as "Don't stop sleeping" except this means the exact opposite :). Reading this, it appears the second interpretation is correct, so perhaps a slight revision of [the titles in my video of the song] «Do not stop to sleep» and «别停别睡觉» is in order. Doing it now on Sep 12 2018 at 18:33». But let's get to the song!
