Given all the "important companions" of the last few posts (excluding the Christmas break, of course), it seems a good place to insert a few posts about songs where the singer is asking for an SO's company. For example, today we have Lela, a Galician (nope, not Spanish, and nope, not Portuguese - trust me, I tried to rectify the spelling for both languages and had to conclude it was neither) song I translated to Chinese.
HEUREKA! I found a printed version of the file, and it's going to appear at post end. It has Portuguese, Spanish, English, and Italian. Date? No idea, but definitely during High School, which means between Sep 2007 and Sep 2012, though I think it was spring so that limits the date options :). Also, I'm pretty sure it wasn't in year 5 of high school, meaning it wouldn't be 2012. Pretty sure it wasn't done while I was busy with Min and Hakka songs just found :). Not sure about simultaneity with Sappho (years 3 and 4)… Actually, an old HD popped up with the file, in multiple versions, one of which has metadata 27/3/09 (creation) and 17/6/09 (edit). The diary unfortunately doesn't mention these translations until 17/6, where it says «termino Lela in comp» (I finish Lela on the computer). So that's it for those old ones.
Upon planning to record Galician Portuguese Spanish Italian on 11/3/23, I realize "meninhas" or similar doesn't mean pupils in Spanish or Portuguese, so I find "pupilas" for both, and that's in the evening of 10/3 or the night before 11/3. On 11/3 at 11:54 I fix the Spanish as per below. Then, while recording, or preparing to record, I make more tweaks from 12:14 to 13, with a couple on 12/3 shortly before noon, possibly while captioning. This leads to the versions in the Revised Chinese tab, whereas the other tabs have the originao 2009 versions.
I then translated the song to Greek at 2:32-3:04 in the night between 17/3/23 and 18/3/23, having it corrected by Kika between the next day and 20/3. This version is only in the Revised Chinese tab.
So let's see this!
- The first record of the Chinese appears to be a file from Dec 16 2012, created 14:57 edited 15:02, which puts this firmly in year 2. This is the original Chinese below. I sent it to my corrector that day at 15:05.
- Then on 5/3/13 at 18:57 I sent a mail to my corrector which contained the corrected Chinese below, apart from the different line 为一个死去的爱. There are no other email records of this translation, and the first record of the corrected translation is in a file created on Jul 18 2013 at 15:55 and last edited on Aug 22 2013 at 11:24, which contains precisely the below corrected Chinese.
- On Aug 10 2018, at 18:30-18:36, I made some more changes, getting to the revised Chinese below.

Lela, Lela, Lelinha por quem eu morro, Quero mirarme Nas meninas dos teus olhos, Não me deixes, E tem compaixão de mim, Sem ti no podo, Sem ti no podo viver. Dame alento das tuas palavras, Dame celme do teu coração, Dame lume das tuas miradas, Dame vida com teu doce amor. All of the sky's clouds are crying Just for a love that has died All of the roads have been drenchèd So much, indeed, it has rained. Lela, Lela, Dear Lela for whom I'm dying, I wanna see me In your eyes' lovèly girlies1, Do not leave me, And have compassion of me, Without you, darling, Without you I cannot live. Give me breath with your lovèly speaking, Give me essence from your lovely heart, Give me light with your glances alone, Give me life with a love sweet as yours. 1 The pupils (from pupilla, "little girl") were so called due to the reflection of oneself seen when looking in somebody's eyes. |
