Parting and nostalgia again today, with this Mandarin song called 我的歌声里 | Wǒ de gēshēng lǐ, "In my singing voice". I translated it:
- To Czech first. Now, this was done in two parts. The first part, which was just enough to allow this mixed-language video, so the first verse and the chorus, is given below in three versions:
- The first one is the original one, found in a word file last edited 8/2/14 18:47 (and created just a minute before that). I'm pretty sure that's the correct year, so I'll just assume that's the actual date and time of making the translation. Maybe I made it writing by hand first then copied it? Or actually, maybe I wrote it first in a Google Translate tab, to "park" it there and work on it. I have two saves of such a tab, namely one saved 12/2 at 19:35, and one saved 25/2 at 15:04. These are from saved Firefox sessions 179 and 182, and session 178 is from 6/2, with a last file saved at 17:43, so that's a lower limit to when the translation was made; looking at the diary, the 11/2/14 entry says I translated it to Czech "in the Weekend", and the Weekend just before that day was Feb 8 and Feb 9, so yeah, 8/2/14 is the date.
- I then sent it to my usual Czech corrector's mother, who is 100% Czech (the corrector being half-Czech half-Italian), and she replied to my email on 23/2/14 at 16:33 with version 2.
- As for version 3, it's me metabolizing those corrections. I am not sure when I did it. The version in question is found in a 16:30 22/5/17 audio sent to my corrector on WA. I would assume I either made the changes shortly after version 2 reached me (or perhaps in the neighborhood of the other emails between me and the mother, one from me on 25/2/14 at 13:35 with comments on the corrections and the other on 24/5/14 at 23:57 from her), or shortly before that audio. There is a FB Messenger discussion with my corrector about this song, but I don't know what version it's referring to. It's probably whatever was on this Fb note back then, but the note doesn't have an edit history, the last edit was "16/3", and it appears the creation date was 12/5/17, and I currently have no access to the screenshots from that day, which I plan to browse through in the hopes of finding a glimpse of what that note looked like at the time.
- Then I have the English version from June 4 2017,back before I wrote down the timestamps for translations besides the dates.
- Then on 18/9/21 I randomly translate the chorus into both Hindi and Greek in the morning, starting with l. 1 of the Hindi, then doing a bunch of the Greek, and then finishing both. They both sit in my translation notes for ages, until on 7/11/21 I finally get around to continuing the Hindi. I do verse 1 betwee 22:56 and 23:34, and then put some thought on the history above, investigating more than I had previously done. For now, on 8/11, as I edit this, I have verse 1 and chorus in Hindi. And then this lands in IAFI and sits there for ages, until I finally complete it on 21/11/22 at 19:38-20:09. So let me complete it down there…
- The Greek still has the chorus only. I will eventually finish both, I promise :). Then it landed on IAFI with intro «The Greek still has the chorus only, whose history is narrated above, and which is from 18/9/21, just like the Hindi chorus.», and sat there for ages until, on 20/11/22, I finally decide to finish it, and do so 17:55-18:44. Tweak 0:06 next night, tweak due to Kika correction whenever I saw her message, tweak Στο τραγούδι μου -> Στα τραγούδια μου at 21:30 on 21/11, and here we are.
